Ensuring Comfort and Safety at Home

Ageing in place works best when the home changes together with the person. Harmony helps families refurbish existing apartments so older adults can move more safely, see more clearly and breathe more easily – without losing the character of their home.

Situation

A couple in their seventies wanted to continue living in their long-time home but were concerned about bathroom safety and night-time navigation.

What Harmony did

We assessed circulation, bathroom layout, lighting and air. The plan included a walk-in shower, grab bars, non-slip finishes, better corridor lighting, and simple air and water upgrades.

Result

After renovation, the apartment felt brighter and safer, with easier bathing and fewer night-time risks reported by the family.

Challenges we often see

  • Narrow circulation and step hazards

  • Slippery bathrooms and difficult showers

  • Poor lighting and glare

  • Stale air or uncomfortable temperatures

  • Hard-to-reach switches, storage and controls

What we do in a silver-age project

1

Home and lifestyle assessment

We visit, talk to the resident and family, review daily routines, and map key risks and discomforts room by room.

2

Refurbish concept and plan

We propose practical changes such as safer bathrooms, clearer circulation, better lighting, more supportive furniture and improved air and water solutions.

3

Implementation support

We coordinate with contractors and partner suppliers, provide product and fitting specifications, and can attend key site visits.

4

Check‑back and fine‑tuning

After completion, we review the space with the family and can recommend small adjustments or further improvements if needed.

Happy Family

Healthy environment under the surface

Behind every design decision, we consider indoor air, water, light and noise. Where appropriate, we integrate filtration, ventilation, water treatment and smart controls from trusted suppliers to support health and sustainability.

Rooms for Focus and Wellbeing
A teen’s room is a world of its own – a place to study, sleep, create and connect. Harmony helps families redesign these rooms so they support focus and wellbeing, balancing technology, storage, light and fresh air.

Typical issues

  • Desk and bed competing in a small area

  • Screens and lighting that disturb sleep

  • Crowded storage and visual clutter

  • Poor ventilation in air-conditioned rooms

  • Noise spillover to and from the room

Situation

  • Cramped room where study, sleep and play are mixed together, causing clutter and stress.

  • Heavy screen use (phone, tablet, computer) with poor lighting and late‑night habits affecting sleep.

  • Poor ventilation / stale air in air‑conditioned rooms, especially with closed windows and soft furnishings.

  • Noisy environment from street, neighbours or other family members, making it hard to focus.

  • Furniture and storage pieced together over time, not planned – leading to wasted space and constant reorganising.

What Harmony can do

  • Reuse and upgrade existing furniture

    • Re‑design the layout to keep and adapt existing pieces where possible (e.g. sanding and repainting desks, changing handles, adding modular storage) instead of buying everything new.

  • Choose longer‑lasting, low‑impact materials

    • When new items are needed, use durable, repairable furniture and materials with lower VOCs or certified finishes to support healthier indoor air.

  • Improve energy and air efficiency

    • Better natural light use, sensible window treatment, fan + AC strategy, and efficient lighting to reduce energy use while improving comfort.

  • Plan for future reuse / flexibility

    • Modular furniture and layouts that can adapt as the teen grows, reducing the need for full replacements in a few years.

What’s included in a teen room project

1

Room and routine review

We speak with the teen and family, observe how the room is used and note key frustrations and goals.

2

Layout and design proposal

We create a concept that separates study and sleep zones where possible, clarifies circulation, and recommends furniture, colours and materials.

3

Environment upgrades

We suggest improvements for lighting, air quality and acoustics, and specify partner technologies where helpful.

4

Implementation guidance

We provide drawings, shopping lists and specifications, and can coordinate with contractors or carpenters.

Teen With Laptop

We aim for rooms that can adapt as teenagers grow into young adults, with flexible layouts and fixtures that age well.
